SMART goals for our church
Dear Friends,We have just had our annual charge
conference where we do the business of the church that helps us prepare for 2012. One thing we have been
asked to do for the future is to set some SMART goals for our church. The
goals are to center on five key areas: worship attendance, professions of faith, growth in discipleship (following Jesus in
practical, life transforming ways), missions initiatives (service), and finally generosity and stewardship. Churches that are similar to ours have been involved in the process and the long and the short of
it is this: If you want to get the same results, keep doing the same things. Well, we
have tried some different things over the years. As a smaller congregation, we can turn quickly.
Once again, we are looking for ways to try to reach new people with the love and grace of Jesus Christ.
Over the next two months we will be really trying to develop some new ideas and
plan to use a few of them to help our congregation fulfill its mission. The mission of the local church
is to make disciples of Jesus Christ. The vision to fulfill that mission shifts based on the current context
of ministry. Who is in our community? Who is in our church? How can
we make new connections? What areas or skills does our church do really well? What should
we do to try something new? I will be hosting some meetings to facilitate the goal setting
portion of our planning for 2012. I want to encourage all of you take part in our progress!THANKSGIVINGWe are so thankful that Ms. Verna Powell is back
home and recovering after a very difficult month in the hospital. Praise the Lord!We are thankful for the service rendered to our church by the members of the Thrift Store team. Lots
of good things happening! We are thankful for our Triple-G ministry that pulled off a
delicious Pancake Breakfast! We are thankful for your generosity! Within
two days of charge conference we received 5 of the 40-50 wrapped gifts to deliver to Camden as a part of our District’s
Mission initiative. As we gear up for the holiday season, let me encourage
your faithful support of our Angel Tree program, our Samaritan’s Purse initiative, and this partnership with our District. As the year moves to a close, let me encourage you to begin thinking about your charitable giving.
This is an excellent time of year to plan to give. Talk to your tax advisor with current numbers
in order to determine where you may need to be to receive the maximum tax benefit to you as you also partner with Gibbsboro
UMC to share in the ministry here! God Bless!
